Sylacauga Estate Yielded a Simpsons Village Buyout

The house on Wildberry Lane in Sylacauga is one of those stone-front builds tucked back into tall pines — the kind of place that suggests someone lived well and kept a lot of things. The sale ran over a weekend in mid-June, organized by Southern Estate Sales, and the listing made no small promises: enclosed trailer, pool table, grafonola, camelback sofa, Fenton glass. Enough to justify the drive down from the start.

We went both days. First day is always reconnaissance as much as buying — you're reading the room, figuring out what's priced to move and what the family is still attached to. By the second morning, the math gets clearer. That's when the real decisions happen.

The biggest single score was a full Simpsons Christmas Village collection, which we bought out in one go. For the uninitiated, these are the Department 56-style ceramic buildings and figures based on the Springfield characters — Kwik-E-Mart, the Simpson house, that sort of thing. Whoever assembled this collection was thorough about it. Beyond that, we pulled books — a solid mixed lot, the kind that takes a few evenings to sort properly — along with several framed prints that held up once we got them into decent light.

Nothing about this haul is especially old save a few books. It's more about depth than age: a collector who went all-in on something specific, a house full of accumulated reading, some decorative pieces that photograph well. The Simpsons Village pieces in particular are the kind of thing that has a real following, and we're glad they landed with us rather than getting scattered.

Items will be listed across our shops over the coming weeks — keep an eye on our eBay and Etsy storefronts as pieces come online.
