Saturday Night Auction Pulls in East Alabama
Saturday night auctions have a particular rhythm to them — the room thins out, the auctioneer picks up the pace, and if you're patient, the interesting boxes start coming through. That was the situation at an East Alabama auction house this past weekend, and the result was a solid mixed haul worth unpacking over the next few weeks.
Glassware — a tray of green Depression-era glass tumblers that photograph well and move consistently. Beyond that, the haul gets pleasantly miscellaneous: a crystal candle holder, milk glass pieces, a small framed print or two, silverplate serving items, a buttonhole attachment still in its original Singer packaging, buttons and pins, a Mirro piece, and what looks like a Focal slide viewer. The JSU Gamecocks pennant is a nice regional artifact for the right collector.
There's a New Testament in a presentation box, a Franciscan earthenware piece marked on the back, and enough small smalls — decorative plates, sewing notions, vintage pencils — to keep the listing queue moving for a while. These are the lots that don't photograph glamorously in a pile but tend to find good homes once they're cleaned up and given their own listings.
