The Christian Index 1972 Sesquicentennial Issue Georgia Baptist Convention 150th — photo 1 of 2

About this piece

The Christian Index, the Georgia Baptist Convention newsmagazine, June 29, 1972, the sesquicentennial special issue marked "1822 – Our 150th Year – 1972." The headline reads "Sesquicentennial Issue Of The Christian Index Marks Birthday Of Georgia Baptist Convention." Color cover photos show Powelton Baptist Church in Hancock County, Kiokee Baptist Church at Appling, the Mercer University chapel at Penfield and the old Christian Index building at Penfield. About 11 x 14.5 in. Condition: light edge wear and small nicks along the spine, and the back cover is lightly toned at the edges; the mailing label is partly lifting.

The cover calls this the fourth special issue, following those of 1920, 1922 and 1939. The back cover has Cooperative Program giving charts for 1959–1971 and a Georgia Railroad Bank & Trust (Augusta) tribute ad.

It is a nice piece of Georgia Baptist and Southern church history.
