About this piece

Original vintage family photo album with the name Connie Sue lettered in red script on the cover, every page filled with approximately 80 black-and-white and early color photographs that follow one girl from babyhood through school days to young womanhood and her wedding. Highlights include 1940s houses and a man in a suit and tie, baby and toddler portraits, children on church or courthouse steps, a large portrait of a little girl in glasses and plaid overalls, school portraits in cat-eye glasses, a large school class photo, a birthday-party table of children, teen snapshots with a late-1950s or early-1960s car (one captioned June 1957), a hand-tinted color studio portrait of a young woman, and a bride in a full-skirted gown. Palms and tropical shrubs appear in several outdoor shots. Album measures 11.5 x 9.5 inches with a floral-pattern cover; around 3 lbs. Condition: cover wear and soiling; photos are held under plastic overlay pages and are left in place as found; toning, staining and a few torn or creased prints.

Found at an estate sale in Anniston, Alabama. The photos have not been removed, so backs have not been examined.

An intact single-family archive spanning about three decades, for vernacular photo collectors, genealogists and anyone who loves mid-century Americana.
