About this piece
A lot of 4 antique studio portrait photographs from one family collection, with inscriptions tying them to the Clark and Gould family: three cabinet cards and one larger embossed mount, from studios in Adrian, Tecumseh and Hillsdale, Michigan and Richwood, Ohio. All show age-appropriate wear, light edge and corner wear and some spotting; see each piece below and the photos.
• Barnum, Adrian, Mich. cabinet card, bearded man in bow tie. Back inscribed in ink "With a brother's love, to My sister, Allie, from H. V. Clark."
• Sunbeam Studio, Tecumseh, Mich., larger mount with embossed rococo frame, seated elderly man with walrus mustache. Back inscribed in ink "My Uncle Gould, Aunt Allie's husband," with "S Gould" in pencil. A few small orange specks on the mount.
• Biddle, Richwood, O. cabinet card, baby in white gown holding a small book. Back in pencil "Edward Murray Clark, 2-26-1901, 13 mos. old." Small corner chips.
• G. C. Dey Studio, Hillsdale, Mich. cabinet card, toddler in lace-yoke dress standing by a wicker chair. Faint pencil on the back appears to read "Edward Henry Bird(?), July 19(0?)2"; the reading is uncertain.
The inscriptions connect the pieces: H. V. Clark's sister Allie, her husband (Uncle) Gould, and a Clark baby dated 1901. A nice small group for genealogy or Michigan photo collectors.
