About this piece
A lot of 4 antique Kansas studio portrait photographs from one family collection: a cabinet card, two larger card mounts and a folder, from studios in Cottonwood Falls, Eureka, Emporia and Irving, Kansas, roughly 1890s to 1910s. Overall used with wear; the cabinet card has a crease, scuffing and a water stain, and the other pieces show small losses noted below.
• Geo. E. Capwell, Cottonwood Falls, Kansas cabinet card, baby in knit bonnet and ruffled cape seated in a wicker chair. Crease and scuff at lower right, water stain and small paper loss on the back.
• Larger gray embossed mount, c.1895-1905, girl with very long hair and bead necklaces seated in a wicker chair. Faint purple stamp on the back appears to read "From E. M. Howard's Photo Parlors(?), Opera Block, Eureka, Kas," and faint pencil possibly "Ethel Barnes Kline(?)"; both readings uncertain.
• L. G. Alvord, Emporia, Kans. folder, c.1915-20, woman with braided updo, pearl necklace and embroidered blouse. Small emulsion losses on the print.
• Stiles, Irving, Kans. large mount, man in spectacles seated reading papers. Ink date on the back reads 1915 (possibly 1913); paper loss at one back corner and a front corner.
A good small group for Kansas or Flint Hills collectors and genealogy researchers.
