Antique Group Photo Frank Barrier Seminary Classmates Princeton NJ c1890 Mounted — photo 1 of 2

About this piece

Large antique outdoor group photograph of about 22 young men in suits posed on the front steps of a frame building, with two little girls in white dresses seated at the center. The back is inscribed in pencil "Frank Barrier's Seminary Classmates Princeton N.J." The print is mounted on red-brown card measuring about 8.5 x 6.4 inches and appears to date to about 1885-1895 from the clothing and mount. Condition is poor: the mount is torn and crumbling at the edges with a crack running through it, and the print is faded with a small scuff at the upper left corner, though the image itself is intact.

The men wear the suits, vests, high collars and neckties of the period; several hold hats, including a straw boater, and one appears to hold a cane. The building has clapboard siding, shuttered windows and an open doorway at the top of the steps. The pencil note is faint and runs along the right edge of the back; the reading above is my best transcription.

This comes from the same family collection as other photographs listed separately in our store.
