About this piece

Pair of vintage farm-advertising pocket memo books from two fertilizer companies. Pocket size, about 3 x 4.5 and 3.3 x 5.9 inches. Used condition: both show wear and staining, and the Buhner book is heavily stained; details below.

• Armour Fertilizer Works — red cover "More Farmers Use Armour's" with cartoon farmers' faces and bags of Armour's Big Crop Fertilizers ("Make Every Acre Do Its Best") and Vertagreen Plant Food. Inside: an identification page, "This memo book is a gift of your Armour agent," and a full Vertagreen ad. Back lists the General Office in Atlanta, Ga. and sales offices across the South and beyond, including Birmingham and Montgomery, Ala., Havana, Cuba and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Cover wear, creases and a few spots.

• Buhner's Happy Farmer Fertilizer — green cover with a farmer plowing behind a mule, "As Necessary as the Rain," "Non-Acid Forming." Back: "Serving the Farmers of the Middle West for Over 60 Years," factories at Seymour, Ind. and Danville, Ill. Blank memo pages inside. Heavy brown staining and a black mark on the back, a small hole at the back edge, spotting on the front and a loose inside page.

Great graphics for farm, agriculture and advertising collectors.
