Victorian chromolithographed announcement from The Youth's Companion, 41 Temple Place, Boston, Mass., for the coming 1890 volume. The front is a color picture titled "For Old and Young": a farm girl in a straw hat and apron carrying a basket and jug through a harvest field of shocked wheat and pumpkins, framed in a printed border of wheat. About 6 x 8.1 inches. Used condition with toning, water staining on the back, corner and edge chips and a crease at the right edge.

The back is a "Announcement for 1890" with a calendar strip for July through December, a list of what the coming volume will contain (serial stories, 150 short stories, natural history, articles on health, outdoor sports, games and puzzles and more) and a list of illustrators, including Remington, Kemble, Smedley, Sandham and Meeker. It closes with the subscription terms of the weekly.

A nice display piece for Victorian ephemera, periodical, calendar and farm-scene collectors.
