About this piece
Antique hand-tinted stereoview of Niagara Falls in winter, published by The London Stereoscopic Company, 54 Cheapside (blindstamped on the front and back). Arched-top paired images show snow-covered banks in the foreground and the old Terrapin Tower standing at the brink of the falls, colored in soft blues, greens and pinks. About 7.1 x 3.4 inches. Used condition with toning, foxing spots across the sky and image, light corner wear and a pencil number on the back.
The back carries the printed title "Niagara Falls. Winter Scene." beneath a United States of America eagle and shield, with a passage by N. P. Willis on the falls in winter, a note that Father Hennepin, a Jesuit missionary, was the first European to see Niagara in 1678, and lines from Byron, all within a decorative border.
A nice early export view for collectors of Niagara Falls, winter scenes, or London Stereoscopic Company cards. Please see all photos for condition.
