About this piece

Antique divided-back color printed postcard of the Baptist Church, North Yakima, Washington (the town's name before it became Yakima). Front shows the large rough-cut stone church with square bell tower, round windows, red roof and arched entries along a dirt street. Standard 3.5 x 5.5 in, posted from North Yakima in January 1911 with a one-cent green Franklin stamp. Fair to good antique condition with rounded and worn corners, small edge chips and paper loss along the bottom edge, and overall toning.

Front caption: "Baptist Church, North Yakima, Wash." The publisher line along the center divider reads "...Son, Tacoma, Wash., Publishers," partly covered by the cancel (the visible letters appear to begin "Spro"). Back has a Maltese-cross style "Post Card" heading.

Cancels: North Yakima, Wash. circular date stamp Jan. 19, 1911, plus a wavy flag machine cancel over the stamp. The message, dated Jan. 16, '11, North Yakima, Wash., tells of family news and visits, mentions a Hattie Jackson, and is signed M. Smith; it is addressed to Mrs. H. C. Smith, Tolono, Illinois. Good genealogy and Pacific Northwest church interest.
