About this piece
Lot of 3 vintage school and children's class photographs: a 34-portrait class composite sheet, a studio graduation group of small children in caps and gowns, and a later print of a 1924 class photo captioned Grade 1 Altamont Ill. 1924. Overall used condition with edge wear, corner chips and creasing on the older pieces.
• Class composite sheet, about 9.9 x 8 in: 34 individual head-and-shoulders portraits of children mounted in rows on a black background, appears to date to the 1930s–40s by clothing and hair styles. Condition: worn edges, a chipped upper left corner, a short crease at the bottom edge and light surface wear.
• Studio graduation photo: eleven young children in white caps and gowns holding rolled diplomas, posed around a small cradle before a painted backdrop. Penciled on the back: Dorotha cradle roll picture (a cradle roll was a church nursery or Sunday school roll), plus an older faint pencil note in the corner. Condition: crease and chip at the lower right edge, light soiling and foxing on the back.
• Grade 1 Altamont Ill. 1924: outdoor group of about 22 first graders in front of a brick school building, caption printed in the image. This is a later print on Kodak paper, not a 1924 original. Handwritten notes on the back include a name and age and the words 94 Kerr and Bowen. Condition: clean, minor handling.
A small themed group for collectors of school photography, childhood and small-town Americana.
