Linen postcard of Old Christ Church, Founded 1733, Savannah, Ga., card S-18 published by the Florida Postcard Co., Jacksonville, Fla., and printed by Curt Teich & Co., Chicago (C.T. Art-Colortone). The front shows the ivy-covered church with its columned portico and iron railings, flower beds, a neighboring building and a red vintage car at the curb. Standard 3.5 x 5.5 in, posted with a Savannah postmark. Good used condition with light edge and corner wear, light toning, and a handwritten message, postmark and stamp on the back.

Back caption: "In November, 1732, the good ship Ann sailed from Gravesend on the Thames with colonists under command of James Edward Oglethorpe to establish the Colony of Georgia. Oglethorpe was directed to lay out 'a site for the Church', which was done July 7, 1733, on the present site, corner of Bull and Congress Streets. The first building was commenced March 25, 1740; it was completed and dedicated in 1750." Teich code 7A-H1523 at lower right of front, which by the standard Teich chart dates to 1937.

Savannah, Ga. machine cancel dated Jul 5 (year not clear) with a green 1 cent Washington stamp. Addressed to Mrs. George Brown, Shenandoah, Iowa. The writer, dating it "Savannah Ga. Fri P.M.", says they have been thinking of her "here in this historic old city," that it has rained every day but one since they came south, the vegetation is beautiful and it is not too hot, and adds that it must have been an interesting city before the Civil War.
